Scott Burton Blog:
It’s career month at my daughter Emma’s kindergarten class. They are learning about community roles and the jobs that are options for them in the future.I often jokingly say that Emma is going to have a very skewed view of the working world. After all, both Mom and Dad work out of the house! Sure, I’m often out and about performing but my usual place is in my home office. I wonder how much...

I always knew something was up since I was a child. Grandma's house had a large trophy case full of - you guessed it - trophies. The trophies were always there and something that was usually taken for granted. After all, Grandma was...well Grandma! We loved her just for being her.It was just announced that Grandma will be inducted into the Manitoba Curling Hall of fame. She was part of quite...

Has anyone ever told you that you look like a celebrity? Well, Facebook this week has a fun theme where it encourages people to change their profile picture to a celebrity look-alike.A few times every year, usually following a performance or presentation, someone will come up to me and comment how much I look like John Travolta! Personally, I don't see it but, hey, it's all in good fun.You be...

People often find me because they are looking for a Winnipeg Magician. But is what I do magic tricks? The unique nature of what I do is that I blend together real psychological techniques of influence and persuasion with theatrical magic technique. I create the an empowering and amazing experience where your guests will not know what is real of what is illussion. This produces both a sense of...

Funny story from a performance a few weeks ago.I was performing at a banquet event and the event organizer spoke to me about a "special request" for my performance. "Tell them during the show that you won't be taking off your clothes!" he said to me.I must admit, this was a unique request and one I wasn't quite sure how to handle. You see, I consider my show and the comedy in the show to be...

Many of the people visiting my Corporate Entertainment website are planning Christmas Party Entertainment for their employees. This is definitely a very busy and in-demand time for me.I want to give all those event planners reading this a BIG tip: call as early as you can! The fact is that calls for company Christmas parties come in from January 1st to even as late as December each year. The...

My love for running has never left me. In the past I have raced triathlons, marathons and even the Canadian Death Race a couple of times (in my most ambitious years). I haven't done much racing over the past couple of years but the bug is coming back to me!Last October (2009) I ran a 10 km race and the thrill was amazing! It feels so great to prepare extensively for something then know with...

In my 22 years of performing, I've watched hundreds of great performers showing their skills on stage and entertaining audiences. There are those that are comedic, those that are serious, and other that are just plain weird! But my absolute favourite performers right now are my own children! Their enthusiasm for performing and their honesty and enjoyment on “stage” are certainly both...

No time of the year gets so jam-packed and busy for me as the Christmas party season. Nearly every company has some sort of function and I get calls all year round asking about specific year-end holiday party dates.But...the problem comes...is that everyone wants only a select few dates! This means two things: (1) I jam-pack the performances in as much as is reasonable to accommodate as many...

I'm down 25 pounds since summer! And it was much easier than I thought it would be - once I found the right system. I wanted to share how I did it here and perhaps it may help you. And...I'm still on the program so stay tuned! It feels great to have this element of my personal life completely under control.OK, life has been busy over the past 5 years or so and, along the way, some things have...

I have certainly studied my fair share of sales, marketing, and business theory. I've grown a business from scratch and sold hundreds of performances and programs. But nothing - and I mean nothing - has the challenge of trying to convince a child to give up their favorite comfort item. For my son....this means his baby bottle! Now seriously....at over 2 year old he should be well past the stage...

My wife came to me the other morning to share a story about a little 2-year old boy. He is the son of her friend and is currently in the hospital in intensive care, intubated and ventilated for Stevens Johnson Syndrome. The story, as she shared it with me, is that he started to get blisters around and inside his mouth. The doctor felt it was an allergic reaction - the type a young child can get...
